Day of Jenkins [as code] - A summary
Jenkins is one of the best adverts for open source and at Praqma (company acquired by Eficode in 2019) we have been using it since the very beginning. We enjoy giving something back to the community by hosting Day of Jenkins, and this year’s event was packed with exciting developments. Read on!
For several years now Day of Jenkins has been a great place for users and builders of Jenkins to come together to share stories and collaborate on projects. Day of Jenkins 2018 was no different and this year we had a great lineup.
Kohsuke Kawaguchi, CTO of CloudBees and Creator of Jenkins, opened the day with a great keynote detailing how Jenkins is moving towards a more stateless cloud native way of working. It was interesting to see how CloudBees intend to push Jenkins into the future of software development.
Our very own Ewelina, awarded most valuable contributorat Jenkins World 2018, together with Nicolas de Loof, gave a presentation on the Jenkins Configuration as Code Plugin. This tool will change the way you configure Jenkins masters!
There were two tracks at Day of Jenkins, the user track and the contributor track. The funniest moment of the day came when a question in one room was answered with “that is being fixed in the other room as we speak”, and it was!
The contributor track released version 1.2 of Jenkins Configuration as Code Plugin. While the user track had hands-on sessions on getting started with Jenkins Configuration as Code Plugin, the contributor track had both first timers and experienced hands on deck. Several pull requests were merged during this short but efficient hackathon.
Eyal Ben Moshe and Yahav Itzhak from JFrog rounded of the day with a talk on Jenkins X, an opinionated project for a complete CI/CD pipeline and workflow setup out of the box.
After a successful and inspiring day the attendees shared experiences and goals based on the day’s content. We could feel the positivity in the room as everyone huddled in groups to discuss ideas for the future. How many great open source collaborations start with moments like this?
At Praqma we are proud to be a part of the Jenkins community and look forward to the next event. In the meantime, reach out to us if you need cooperation or assistance on your Jenkins setup and strategy.
