Transcript
Hello everyone and welcome to our webinar about the business impact of generative AI in software organizations. As you might hear, we are with my colleague Marko Klemetti here in the same room, so we're using one microphone. I'm heading the DevOps and AI business at Eficode, and then Marko is our CTO who will run the first part of the webinar on many interesting topics. Then we will discuss a bit more about the business impact of AI. With these words, I will actually hand it over to Marko to start the contents of today. Thank you and welcome everybody. As said, I'm the CTO at Eficode and also a Microsoft MVP in Azure AI. I will be talking you through some of the trends of generative AI today for software development and organizations overall. I will also show a few demonstrations and ideas on how AI is being used currently. It will take roughly 30 minutes, and then we'll have a discussion with Henkka. In the last 15 minutes, we will be going through your questions. As a reminder, you can ask questions as we go in the questions part, and as we move forward, Henkka will either read them out loud or we will handle them in the latter part of the presentation. As we already know, generative AI is changing the way we do work, not only in software development but overall how we consume anything within digital services. The last two years have seen the democratization of AI starting from ChatGPT, but also today there are lots of other models available. Some benchmarks show that AI will relatively soon surpass human capabilities, not only in traditional AI parts but also in areas such as logical thinking and reading comprehension. Generative AI has made significant improvements in generating code, and this transformation is recognized as one of the most impactful forces across all industries, not just the software industry. Analyst organizations predict an annual growth rate of somewhere between 40 to 50%. As generative AI changes the way traditional organizations operate, it also opens up new opportunities for organizations to work on business and the way they produce software. I will trace back a few steps on organizational functionalities. When organizations start to introduce generative AI within their systems in the value stream, we see that there are a few things that have been brewing for the last 15 years. Eficode, as a DevOps organization, has been at the center of this, looking at organizations trying to automate parts of their processes in digital software development. Not only automation but organizations have had to adapt into a more fluent value stream, reducing bottlenecks and silos within the organization. The movement in development has been clear, shifting from centralized functions where responsibilities are shared across functional areas to more decentralized approaches. This decentralization opens up opportunities for the value stream to pass through the organization faster. With generative AI, it's crucial that as development decentralizes, the tool chains remain centralized. If we have a decentralized way of working and decentralized tooling, it can become chaotic. One of the underlying movements with generative AI is the centralization of tool chains and how organizations operate.
